The BookBar

Location:

Gillitts, South Africa

Year:

2022

Designer:

Londi Busse

Type:

Heritage Revive

The design scheme pays homage to the era, by bringing in elements that are characteristic to the time period. The colour selection is inspired by: the building itself, the greenery that surrounds the area and the colour of red wine.

The bar is double tiered, and allows customers to order their drink and sit at the bar, take their drink outside or sit at one of the many seating options. Behind the bar there is a ceiling height wine bottle display that creates a lovely wall feature for the space.

The shelves are multi-purpose and are used for the display of the available wine and book. We sell second-hand and newly published books, with the corner shelving being home for the new books and the back shelving for the second-hand books. Customers can browse the books (or the wine labels) and take a seat at any one of the 5 seating options: the bar counter, the window stools, the comfy couches, the corner bench and the outside seating. All seating faces the windows, looking out onto the railway track, this area receives the most amount of sun throughout the day – creating a light, bright and warm atmosphere.

At the deli, customers can purchase freshly baked breads and treats from the local baker, delicious cheeses from Le Petit France, fresh fruit from the local farmers and cold meats from Coltempo. Customers can pack these into a picnic basket and enjoy them on the lawn outside or eat off a delicious grazing board. If the customer does not drink alcohol they can purchase fresh juice or a cup of coffee at the deli.
